Junipers Protect Slope From Erosion
These low, spreading junipers need a couple of years to really start to fill in. They’ve begun to really make a difference when it rains. You can see them better, now that some of the leaves have fallen from their neighbors.

From lower left corner, clockwise: tiger lily foliage, groundcover juniper, eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana), weeping willow “teenager” in the backacre, alder foliage on this side of the pond, some distant autumn tree colors, a big white rock, tamed grapevine and brambles, blanket flowers (galliardia) that are still blooming. In the middle, a favorite – beautyberry (callicarpia).

Mysterious Case of Stunted Growth
I don’t understand why the 2 Princeton elm trees we planted in the back acre are still so tiny, when the one up on the slope is 10 feet tall. It’s a mystery!
Weeping Willow “Teens”
Salix babylonica, planted in 2012 as mere sticks are now taller than us!
