I’ve learned that the stripe might provide a clue as to what cultivar this is.

All of these lanky rhododendron divisions were planted last year. I wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t prune them back. Most have new growth at their bases and many actually bloomed.


‘Yellow Lantern’ (M. acuminata var. subcordata x M. x soulangeana), in full bloom, looking mighty mysterious at night.

The saturated bloom color of native redbud, with giant purple alliums just starting to wake up. This particular redbud has evolved into a shrubby form because it’s on an exposed slope.

This is the first year this small tree has had so many blooms.
